What is Tinnus?

Tinnitus is the hearing of sound when no external sound is present. While often described as a ringing, it may also sound like a clicking, hiss or roaring. Rarely, unclear voices or music are heard. The sound may be soft or loud, low pitched or high pitched and appear to be coming from one ear or both.

What is Tinnus Testing?

Audiological evaluation is an inseparable and important part of tinnitus assessment. A hearing test is almost always needed to identify any condition that involves the auditory system. This should be the first step in an audiological evaluation oftinnitus, since about 90 percent of cases occur with hearing loss.

How do you get tested for tinnitus?

Your doctor will examine your ears, head and neck to look for possible causes oftinnitus. Tests include: Hearing (audiological) exam. As part of the test, you’ll sit in a soundproof room wearing earphones through which will be played specific sounds into one ear at a time.

How tinnitus cured ?

To treat your tinnitus, your doctor will first try to identify any underlying, treatablecondition that may be associated with your symptoms. If tinnitus is due to a health condition, your doctor may be able to take steps that could reduce the noise. Examples include: Earwax removal.
